Milovan Rakovic Signs With Zalgiris Kaunas
Initial reports out of Lithuanian press have confirmed that former Orlando Magic Summer Leaguer and 60th pick in the 2007 NBA Draft (who bought for cash from Dallas) Milovan Rakovic has signed a 1-year deal to join Zalgiris Kaunas. Now, if you've read this blog you would have noticed I mentioned the Rak Attack a few months ago.
The 26-year-old was a fairly crucial part of Montepaschi Sienareaching the EuroLeague Final Four in May before his squad was dispatched by the now champion Panathinaikos. Rakovic did have 2 years left on his deal with the Italian side, but he was let out of that agreement (Whether there was a buyout, who knows) and is sticking around in EuroLeague this time in Lithuania.
The 1-year deal is a great sign for Magic fans wanting the big guy to come over in 2012. It's not often you see a great player sign just a one year deal unless they have bigger plans in mind. Unlike Fran Vazquez, Milovan has always wanted to play in the NBA. However after the 2007 Summer League, Otis Smith and the coaching staff wanted Rakovic to be groomed in Europe for a few years before coming over.
Well, time has flown by but it looks like the Rak Attack could very well be in Orlando come 2012. Hopefully it's not a consolation prize for having lost Dwight Howard. Zalgiris also signed Toronto Raptor Sonny Weems, so they're taking this EuroLeague season very seriously.
